Rancho de los Capitancillos mining and title rights excerpts and notes : mss, [ca. 1856?]

Manuscript copies of legal documents and letters relating to land title and mining rights on the Rancho de los Capitancillos (Santa Clara Co., Calif.) These include a letter from governor Alvarado discouraging John Gray from pursuing mining rights to the "Quick Silver property in California;" the original land grant to Justos Larrios [i.e Larios]; various mining denoucements; deeds to parts of the rancho and other land; etc. Some of the text relates to New Almaden Mine court cases of Charles Fossat. With these is commentary possibly by the person who assembled them. The name of John B. Gray appears frequently, along with other individuals, Santa Clara Mining Association and Guadalupe Mining Co. The last document is signed "Washington, March 29 1856 James D. Stephenson" but since an earlier page quotes a letter written March 31 1856 it is not clear that Stephenson's signature and date pertain to the entire document.
